What is the scope of works for Polished Concrete?

Step 1 – Diamond grind concrete floor with 30 grit metal bond diamond to expose the aggregate

Step 2 – Diamond grind concrete floor with 50 grit metal bond diamond to remove the 30 grit scratches.

Step 3 – Diamond grind concrete floor with 80/100 grit metal bond diamonds to remove the 50 grit scratches.

Step 4 – Grout floor-filling all holes and cracks with concrete grout solution. (PVA)

Step 5 – Densifier the floor and leave to harden or cure overnight.

Step 6 – Polish concrete floor with 50 grit resin diamond pads removing the 80/100 grit scratches.

Step 7 – Polish concrete floor with 100 grit resin diamond pads removing the 50 grit scratches.

Step 8 – Polish concrete floor with 200 grit resin diamond pads removing the 100 grit scratches.

Step 9 – Polish concrete floor with 400 grit resin diamond pads removing the 200 grit scratches.

Step 10 – Polish concrete floor with 800 grit resin diamond pads removing the 400 grit scratches.

Step 11 – Polish concrete floor with 1500 grit resin diamond pads removing the 800 grit scratches.

Step 12 – Polish concrete floor with 3000 grit resin diamond pads removing the 1500 grit scratches.

Step 13 – Apply an impregnating stain guard floor enhancer.

Step 14 – Buff floor with his speed burnisher.

What is the Timeframe for concrete polishing?

The timeframe to polish concrete changes with every slab.

Few of them are the size of the area, if space is open or if there are lots of small rooms that require handwork.

It also depends on the concrete polishing system– Mechanically polished or grind and seal, the level of stone exposure and shine. 

As an example, a standard double garage for a grind and seal may take 2-3 days.

What do I need to provide onsite while my concrete floor is being Polished?

We bring our generator along with all the tooling, products and machines to complete your project. 

All we require from you is clear access for our vehicles.

standard power sockets, water and toilet facilities.

Is Polished Concrete recommended for an industrial floor?

Industrial flooring needs to be hard-wearing, durable, chemical and slip-resistant. 

We would generally recommend an epoxy coating or polished concrete flooring.

How much does it cost?

Like anything else – the price can vary enormously. 

Few things to consider are the flooring option you choose, the preparation work required, the job size, access, location and the gloss level.

Our quotes factor in time and resources allocated to a project. 
However, variations that can increase the price are;

Polished Concrete FAQ How Long

How long will polished concrete last?

The lifespan of polished concrete is why it is worth the investment compared to cheaper alternatives.

Due to their high resistance and incredibly high-performance, they can last two or more decades. 

To guarantee the floor longevity, we recommend being installed by a professional. When maintained over the years, therefore, the floor life span can extend over two decades.

Does polished concrete become slippery?

Well unlike anti-slip flooring like epoxy or polyurethane cement the floor is flat, smooth and glossy.

Therefore non-slip is not achieved, and this is why we cover all areas of specialised flooring. 

We believe that in dry conditions, polished concrete performs better than tiles of a similar gloss level. For areas exposed to water, we can either reduce the finishing level for polished concrete or add grit to the coating system to achieve a better grip. 

For outdoor areas, we recommend a Grind and Seal system with an added anti-slip agent in matte or gloss finish.

Why does concrete crack?

Shrinkage is the leading cause of cracking in concrete slabs. As the concrete hardens and dries, it shrinks due to the evaporation of excess mixing water. The wetter the concrete mix, the higher the shrinkage will be, and the likelihood for cracks to develop. 

Even if your floor does crack, there are several remedies available for repairing the damage.

We inject large cracks with a resin, such as an epoxy or polyurethane, or fill small cracks with a concrete caulk or patching compound.

How long can we not use the floor during the polished concrete process?

During the process, you can use the ( once we have left site ) and as soon as the floor is finished off with a quick buff, you can return to service as usual.

This is the reason why we like working at night to prevent downtime for your business because you can use the area as usual during the day.

Does polished concrete save on lighting costs?

Yes, research shows that it can save over 50% on electricity bills due to the reflectiveness of the surface.

Are concrete floors pet-friendly?

There are only a few flooring materials that are friendlier to pets and their owners than concrete.

As concrete is non-porous, pet urine can’t seep into the floor, making it resistant to pet stains and odours.

It’s easy to clean, requiring only a damp mop, for whenever those muddy paws race through the floor.

As polished concrete is a smooth surface, it won’t trap any dander, fleas, mite or mould, making it an allergy-free environment.

It’s scratch resistant when protected with a sealer. Concrete floor is non-toxic and does not release VOCs.

And it can be quickly heated using radiant heating, keeping your pet warm and comfortable.
